Do It Green! Minnesota offers our annual Green Gifts Fair right before Thanksgiving. The event is meant to introduce green gift options and low impact ideas to celebrate the holidays from Thanksgiving to Christmas to Hanukkah to Kwanzaa to Winter Solstice, New Year's and everything in between! Come begin your holiday celebrations with us on November 19th!

 

  • SHOP 70+ local retailers and artists for green, recycled, fair trade and organic gifts. Visit the full list of vendors here. 
  • LEARN about green holiday decorating, wrapping, food & party ideas, and homemade gifts.
  • EAT lunch or dinner at many of the restaurants at the market and sample low carbon holiday foods with local chef demos.
  • CELEBRATE the new 2012 Do It Green! Magazine themed The Ultimate Toolkit for Sustainable Living (great gift idea!).
  • ATTEND the eco fashion show, low carbon food cook off, art and cooking demos, and listen to local musicians on our main stage.
  • REDUCE bring your own cloth shopping bags, reusable coffee mug for $1.50 coffee at Mapps Coffee & Tea in the market, and silverware and cloth napkins to reduce waste if you eat in the market and get 10% from listed vendors (they only serve styrofoam and plastic!).
  • RECYCLE your holiday lights at the fair and test your toys and child for lead
  • COME CAR-LESS Come by bike, bus, walking or carpool and get a gift! Download a Metro Transit Go Greener Pass for FREE the week of the event. There is also free parking for up to three hours in the parking ramp off of 10th Street with a market purchase.

 

NOTE: Vendors will be accepting cash or check only. There is an ATM in the market.

ACTIVITES:

* Make your own non-toxic cleaner and learn about reducing toxins in your home with Do It Green! Minnesota and Preventing Harm Minnesota

* Color with handmade soy paraffin-free crayons by Earth Grown Crayons, play Eco Twister, and pick up a home audit checklist and food print wallet shopping card by Do It Green! Minnesota 

* Learn about low waste and low cost ways to wrap gifts including a hands-on demo of Furoshiki a Japanese style of gift wrap by Do It Green! Minnesota 

* Come play the fishing game with Sierra Club 

* Sew your own cloth gift bag or recycled tote bag with the American Sewing Guild 

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:

* Bring your chilren's toys to test them for lead by the City of Minneapolis

* Bring in your old strings of holiday lights for recycling through the Recycling Association of Minnesota

* Upload the Go Green Pass to use it for free transportation by bus or lightrail offered by Metro Transit

* Learn new energy efficiency tips for reducing your impact this winter with the Center for Energy and Environment 

* Learn about ways to host a holiday party without impacting the environment at the Do It Green! Resource Center 

* See the holiday tree diplay and learn about which options are environmentally-friendly 

Get your 2012 Do It Green! Magazine 

The Green Gifts Fair event launches the new 2012 Do It Green! Magazine titled the "Ultimate Sustainable Living Toolbox". This issue combines over 100 of our most popular articles over the past eleven years in updated versions, and many new articles. From A to Z you will learn about sustainable living for home, business, and community life in Minnesota. This guide is the perfect holiday gift for the ecologically-minded. Do It Green! Magazine will be available for $8 at the Green Gifts Fair and then at sold at over 75 local businesses.
