In an effort to raise awareness about waste reduction issues, the Carver County Historical Society (CCHS), aided by a Community POWER grant provided by the Solid Waste Management Coordinator Board and GreenGuardian.com, has created an eco-history day camp to train middle school-aged children to educate their peers regarding environmental issues. By analyzing recycling methods of the past and present, this program will demonstrate how environmental changes affect the future. By exploring previous solutions to environmental issues and comparing current practices, campers will propose solutions for the future. Leadership training sessions teach campers to become environmental role models encouraging their peers to sign contracts outlining steps to reduce, reuse, and recycle at home.
Camps will run June–August 2008 and will be held at three different locations throughout Carver County. Those interested in either the summer day camps or the teacher workshops should contact Erin Anderson of the CCHS at education@co.carver.mn.us.
